AML Network - The Anti Money Laundering Network

CaixaBank Fined 30 Million Euros for AML Failures in Spain Spain's Sepblac fined CaixaBank 30 million euros for anti-money laundering (AML) failures related to the 2016 sale of Torre Foster, a Madrid skyscraper. The sale involved the transfer of the building from Bankia to a company linked to Abdulla Butti Al Qubaisi, who then sold it to Amancio Ortega's Pontegadea for 490 million euros. CaixaBank inherited these AML issues after merging with Bankia in 2021. Sepblac deemed the breaches very serious, emphasizing the lack of scrutiny for high-risk profiles. CaixaBank is appealing the fines, which mark one of Sepblac's highest penalties.
